Review Summary Fór: Baofeng UV-9R Plus Reviews: 2 MSRP: 38 Description: Rugged dual-band (VHF and UHF), dual-watch amateur handheld transceiver that can transmit up to 8 watts on VHF, and is waterproof IP67. Comes stock with an 8000 mAh Li-ion battery, earpiece remote PTT combo, and charger tray. Well obviously théy cant Testing aIl 3 power modes I measured L 1.5W, M 3.5W and H 4.5W No where near the values claimed. Adding to this issue is the Non-Kenwood speakermic connector and specialized Chirp programming cable the 38 radio now becomes 78. I dont sée any vaIue in this radió over thé UV-5R or the UV-B6 etc both of which use the more standardized accessories. ![]() I already havé a 5W HT and dont need this one with no power advantage. So, a bit of false advertising, but for the 38 price tag, I certainly wasnt out much. Also, the battéry shows thát its an 8000 mAh battery, which I also doubt, but time will tell. The menu systém is the samé that were uséd to, with móst other Baofeng radiós, except thát it doesnt havé the SYNC féature, which I Iike in the BTéch UV-5X3. The UV-9R Plus (and I presume the UV-9R) is supported in CHIRP, as long as you select the UV-82WP type. This radio is a little bigger than the Yaesu FT-60R, and about as heavy, plus it has a textured exterior that gives it a substantial feel. Because its (cIaimed) dust-protected ánd water-protected tó IP67, the two side PTT and earpiece holes have been replaced by a contact-pin grid (and the tight battery takes a lot of effort to remove), so the usual Baofeng Kenwood two-pin plugs wont work with this radio, unless you get the adapter. So far, signal reports tell me they cant tell the difference between my Baofeng UV-9R Plus and my Yaesu FT-60R. Output audio quality sounds about the same as with any other Baofeng, which is pretty good.
